Glen Campbell Collection Celebrates Grammy Legend

In 1962, the first album by accomplished session guitarist and future pop-country superstar Glen Campbell was released. 'Big Bluegrass Special,' credited to the Green River Boys and Glen Campbell, featured 'Kentucky Means Paradise' and introduced the musician to a wider audience, although his real breakthrough would come five years later with the Grammy-winning album and single, 'Gentle on My Mind.'

Those cuts are just two of 60 tracks on the new three-disc collection, 'The Legendary Glen Campbell,' from Reader's Digest Music. Spanning his entire recording career from 1962 to 2008, and featuring the No. 1 smashes 'Galveston,' 'Wichita Lineman,' 'Southern Nights' and 'Rhinestone Cowboy,' the collection also includes long out-of-print rarities recorded by the iconic entertainer, who would literally become a household name when he hosted his own CBS variety series from 1969 to 1972.

Another milestone to mark the Arkansas native's genre-defying career will be the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award to be bestowed upon him this weekend and culminating in a performance with Blake Shelton and the Band Perry.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to individuals who have made "contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording." Fellow country legend George Jones is among the other artists receiving the honor this year.

The five-time Grammy winner, who last year revealed his battle with Alzheimer's disease, is currently on his Goodbye tour, which concludes March 24 in Silver Springs, Fla. See the remaining tour dates here.

As an interpreter of tunes by everyone from Jimmy Webb to Green Day (the Reader's Digest collection includes his 2008 version of the rock band's 'Good Riddance'), Glen says it's always been important to him to sing a song well.

"I think phrasing is lost in the wind," he said, in an exclusive interview with The Boot. "I get so much inspiration from the Lord. He gives me inspiration to sing and to sing it well. That's really what I try to do when I make a record, or when I'm doing a show. Give it your best shot because you never know when you're going to be able to give it another shot."

'The Legendary Glen Campbell' is available at the Reader's Digest Store. Also available now is 'Ghost on the Canvas.' That critically-acclaimed album is the only one not represented on the new collection.
